MEMBERSHIP IS OPEN TO THE FOLLOWING ENTITIES:
a) Full members
- Insurance and reinsurance companies, brokers, actuaries and other support services based and operating in Africa according to the national laws of African countries;
- Bodies responsible for the control or supervision of insurance in member countries.
- Insurance training centers
- National and regional insurance associations
b) Associate members
In addition to the full members defined above, the Organization can accommodate associate members, who must belong to one of the following categories:
- Insurance or reinsurance companies and or organizations of insurance brokers and auxiliaries based outside Africa but having business relationships with African companies.
- Educational institutions with the mission of advancing education and training in the field of insurance in Africa.
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
AIO Bodies
The AIO established the Aviation Insurance Pool and the Oil & Energy Insurance Pool to create capacity and encourage the growth of those lines of business. Other AIO bodies are the Life Committee, Microinsurance Working Group and Associations for African Insurance Brokers, African Insurance Supervisors and African Insurance Educators and Trainers.
NETWORKING
AIO events provide the perfect opportunity for insurance leaders to meet their counterparts and promote productive professional relationships. The AIO Annual Conference brings together more than 800 participants from all the continents. Members also benefit from AIO’s excellent relationships with international organizations.
Meetings and events
Throughout the year, AIO meetings and programs bring together leaders of the insurance industry, supervisory authorities, technology providers, academics and other experts to discuss the changes and challenges of our industry. The events include the Annual Conference and General Assembly, the African Reinsurance Forum and Life Insurance Seminar.
Capacity Building
Seminars and training program on various subjects are organised in partnership with international organisations such as the World Bank, International Labour Organisation (Impact Insurance Facility) and Access to Insurance Initiative.

AIO members are part of a growing international trade organization with a reputation for being vibrant, vision and commitment.
Publications
Through regular publications and documentation such as the African Insurance Bulletin, the Annual Review, the Africa Insurance Barometer, the African Reinsurance Pulse and a well-furnished and regularly updated website, etc, the AIO avails its members with important information on the insurance industry in Africa.
