About 50 insurance professionals are taking part in a Capacity Building and Development for Agricultural and Climate Insurance program in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
With the aim of ensuring extensive experience in developing innovative insurance solutions to address climate risks faced by smallholder farmers and vulnerable communities, the program focuses on equipping participants with technical skills in climate and agricultural insurance, including premium calculations, sensitivity analysis, and risk assessment.
The outcome of this training is crucial in reaching key stakeholders across Africa and providing valuable resources to a broad audience, including insurance professionals, agricultural experts, actuaries, policymakers, students, and researchers in agricultural economics and insurance.
By enhancing knowledge in product design, distribution, regulatory frameworks, and claims management, this initiative aims to promote financial inclusion and increase access to affordable insurance for Africa’s low- and middle-income populations.
The Abidjan capacity-building program is Phase 1 for French-speaking African Countries.
Speaking during the start of the training on Tuesday 17th March, the Secretary General of the AIO, Mr Jean Baptiste Ntukamazina, expressed gratitude to the International Finance Corporation, the Global Inclusive Insurance Facility, and the wider World Bank Group for their strong partnership and unwavering commitment to strengthening insurance markets across Africa. This collaboration, he said, reflects a shared belief: that insurance is not merely a financial product, but a development instrument. I equally thanked the Executive Director of ASA-CI for the high spirit of collaboration and for facilitating the holding of the training in Abidjan.
